The Role of Aquaporin 7 in the Movement of Water and Cryoprotectants in Bovine In Vitro Matured Oocytes

Tania Garcia-Martinez et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the permeability of bovine oocyte plasma membrane to water and cryoprotectants, with a focus on the role of aquaporin 7 (AQP7). The results showed that cryoprotectants stimulated the expression of AQP3 and AQP7, with dimethyl sulfoxide upregulating AQP3 expression and ethylene glycol upregulating AQP7 expression. Additionally, overexpression of AQP7 increased the permeability of oocytes to water. These findings provide valuable insights for improving the cryopreservation protocols of bovine oocytes.

Freezing Protocol Optimization for Iberian Red Deer (Cervus elaphus hispanicus) Epididymal Sperm under Field Conditions

Daniela Alejandra Medina-Chavez et al.

Summary: The study evaluated different methods of storing and freezing Iberian red deer epididymal sperm under field conditions. Samples stored in straws during refrigeration showed better sperm quality, with active mitochondria and lower apoptotic cells. Freezing in liquid nitrogen vapors in a tank or box yielded better results than freezing in dry ice or over a metallic plate.

Effects of Saccharides Supplementation in the Extender of Cryopreserved Rooster (Gallus domesticus) Semen on the Fertility of Frozen/Thawed Spermatozoa

Olga Stanishevskaya et al.

Summary: This study developed new balanced media containing trehalose for cryopreservation of rooster semen, leading to higher egg fertilization rates and prolonged functionality of sperm in the genital tract of chickens. The results suggest that trehalose can improve the fertility of frozen/thawed sperm and extend their reproductive life in hens.

Effects of Inositol Supplementation in Sperm Extender on the Quality of Cryopreserved Mesopotamian Catfish (Silurus triostegus, H. 1843) Sperm

Zafer Dogu et al.

Summary: This study found that increasing levels of inositol significantly improved sperm motility rate and duration, decreased oxidant status and DNA damage, and reduced the percentage of apoptotic sperm in Mesopotamian Catfish post-thaw process. These results indicate the positive effects of supplemental inositol on enhancing sperm cryopreservation efficiency in Silurus triostegus.

Oocyte Cryopreservation in Domestic Animals and Humans: Principles, Techniques and Updated Outcomes

Theerawat Tharasanit et al.

Summary: Oocyte cryopreservation is vital for preserving the genetic potential of individual females, but recent outcomes have been poor. Improvement in freezing technology and development of novel cryodevices can help mitigate cryoinjury and enhance the outcomes. Further study and optimization of techniques are required to improve success rates, especially for different species.
