Cereal grain fiber composition modifies phosphorus digestibility in grower pigs

Charlotte M. E. Heyer et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effects of cereal grains with different fermentable carbohydrates on phosphorus digestion. The results showed that cereal grains high in fermentable fiber reduce phosphorus digestibility but increase phytate-phosphorus digestibility. Carbohydrate fermentation leads to increased release of phytate-phosphorus.

In vitro assays for evaluating phytate degradation in non-ruminants: chances and limitations

Vera Sommerfeld et al.

Summary: The positive effects of phytases on the environment, animal welfare, and animal feed costs have led to continuous development and improvement in the non-ruminant feed market. In vitro assays can help evaluate phytase enzymes and reduce the number of in vivo experiments, though they cannot fully replace them. Additionally, in vitro assays have the potential to rank feed enzymes and serve as screening tools.

The influence of feed ingredients on CP and starch disappearance rate in complex diets for broiler chickens

Naja Bloch Pedersen et al.

Summary: The study examined the influence of feed ingredients on the digestion kinetics of N and starch in complex diets. It was found that starch digestion kinetics were generally faster than N digestion kinetics, with N disappearance rate affected by both single ingredients and interactions among ingredients, while starch disappearance rate was mainly influenced by single ingredients. A combination of FFSB and soybean meal decreased the N digestion rate by 22 to 25%, indicating that individual feed ingredients can impact the disappearance rate of nutrients from other feed ingredients in a complex diet. This demonstrates the importance of understanding nutrient digestion kinetics and how they are affected by different feed ingredients in complex diets, both additively and nonadditively.

Measures Matter-Determining the True Nutri-Physiological Value of Feed Ingredients for Swine

Gerald C. Shurson et al.

Summary: Traditional proximate analysis measures have limited value in estimating the actual nutritional and economic value of feed ingredients fed to swine. Precision swine nutrition practices are essential for increasing energy and nutritional efficiency while reducing negative environmental impacts of pork production. Accurate and comprehensive methods are needed to determine the true nutri-physiological value of feed ingredients used in swine diets.
