Climate change simulations revealed potentially drastic shifts in insect community structure and crop yields in China's farmland

Dexian Li et al.

Summary: Climate change will have drastic impacts on agricultural ecosystems and global food security. This study used ecological niche modeling to predict the distribution of four cereal aphids and their natural enemies under current and projected climate scenarios in China's farmland. The results showed that suitable areas for these insects will shift, and the suppression capacity of ladybug to aphids will increase. The findings emphasize the importance of understanding the impact of climate change on cereal-producing systems and provide insights for pest management strategies in the context of global climate change.

Comparative Transcriptome Analysis of Two Populations of Dastarcus helophoroides (Fairmaire) under High Temperature Stress

Haiyan Shen et al.

Summary: By comparing differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and metabolic pathways between commercially-reared and naturally occurring populations of the parasitic beetle Dastarcus helophoroides, the adaptive mechanism of the species to high temperature stress was revealed. High temperature stress promoted the expression of heat shock proteins and metabolism-related genes in both populations, but the natural population showed higher metabolism synthesis and hydrolysis, leading to the production of more resistant substances.

Biological Strategies of Invasive Bark Beetles and Borers Species

Denis A. Demidko et al.

Summary: Biological invasions by bark beetles and borers pose a significant threat to ecosystems, with species utilizing four main invasion strategies: inbred, polyphagous, intermediate, and aggressive. These invaders exhibit traits like high fecundity, polyvoltinism, association with plant pathogens, and long-range or aggregation pheromones, contributing to their success in invaded areas and potential harm to native plant species.

Prediction of the potential global distribution of the Asian longhorned beetle Anoplophora glabripennis (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) under climate change

Yuting Zhou et al.

Summary: The study used CLIMEX modeling software to predict the global distribution of the Asian longhorned beetle and found that the suitable regions would change with climate change. The Northern Hemisphere, with richer hosts, is more likely to experience outbreaks of the Asian longhorned beetle.

Climate-based ensemble modelling to evaluate the global distribution of Anoplophora glabripennis (Motschulsky)

Dae-hyeon Byeon et al.

Summary: The study projected the potential distribution of the forest pest Anoplophora glabripennis using species distribution modelling and constructed an ensemble map to evaluate global risk areas. The suitable climate for the pest was predicted to shift northward due to climate change, with consensus risk areas identified in the eastern United States, Europe, Korea, China, and nearby Japan. This ensemble modelling approach reduces uncertainties and enhances model reliability for assessing areas at risk of A. glabripennis occurrence.
