Role of epigenetics in parturition and preterm birth

Chunjin Li et al.

Summary: Preterm birth worldwide is associated with high morbidity, mortality, and economic cost. The mechanisms underlying preterm birth are still unclear, but epigenetics may play a role in linking social and environmental risk factors.

Preterm birth lifetime costs in the United States in 2016: An update

Norman J. Waitzman et al.

Summary: The societal cost of preterm birth in the United States was estimated to be $25.2 billion for the 2016 birth cohort, mainly from medical care, delivery care, early intervention and special education, and lost productivity due to associated disabilities in adults. The incremental costs per preterm birth increased during 2004-2016, but the aggregate cost decreased, which was associated with declines in overall births and the preterm birth rate.
