Magnetic resonance imaging pelvimetry predicts the technical difficulty of rectal surgery

Quanmin Ma et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between interspinous diameter and technical difficulties in sphincter-preserved rectal surgery for rectal cancer. The results showed that interspinous diameter was an independent risk factor for laparoscopic surgery difficulty, and it could be used as a predictor for surgical difficulty and assist in preoperative planning and decision-making.

Impact of pelvic dimensions on anastomotic leak after anterior resection for patients with rectal cancer

Zhao-liang Yu et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the impact of pelvic dimensions on the risk of anastomotic leak in rectal cancer patients. The results showed that pelvic inlet and intertuberous distance were independent predictors for postoperative anastomotic leak. The incorporation of pelvic dimensions with other factors in the nomogram may provide a clinical tool for predicting anastomotic leak.

Nomogram for predicting the feasibility of natural orifice specimen extraction after laparoscopic rectal resection

Ben Huang et al.

Summary: The study developed a preoperative nomogram model for predicting the feasibility of trans-anal natural orifice specimen extraction (NOSE) in rectal cancer surgery. Results showed that certain clinical and radiologic parameters were significantly associated with the success rate of NOSE, as well as factors such as postoperative recovery time, length of hospital stay, and wound infections.
