2-[18F]FDG PET/CT radiomics in lung cancer: An overview of the technical aspect and its emerging role in management of the disease

Reyhaneh Manafi-Farid et al.

Summary: Lung cancer is a major global health issue with high mortality rates, and 2-[F-18]FDG PET/CT plays a crucial role in its management. Radiomics analysis has revolutionized medical imaging by revealing data beyond visual interpretation, which can be used for diagnosis, staging, risk assessment, and predicting treatment response.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Preoperative prediction of regional lymph node metastasis of colorectal cancer based on 18F-FDG PET/CT and machine learning

Jiahong He et al.

Summary: In this study, five machine-learning models based on F-18-FDG PET/CT and PET radiomic features were successfully developed and validated for predicting regional LN metastasis in colorectal cancer patients. Among them, the logistic regression and XGBoost models performed the best, showing higher efficacy than F-18-FDG PET/CT in both the training and test sets.

18F-FDG PET/CT Radiomics for Preoperative Prediction of Lymph Node Metastases and Nodal Staging in Gastric Cancer

Qiufang Liu et al.

Summary: This study developed and validated two machine learning models based on preoperative F-18-FDG PET/CT images that have predictive value for LNMs and the N stage in gastric cancer. These predictive models show promise as a potentially useful adjunct to current staging approaches for patients with gastric cancer.
