Evaluation of airway and circulating inflammatory biomarkers for cystic fibrosis drug development

Raksha Jain et al.

Summary: This analysis examined relationships between airway and systemic measurements of inflammation, as well as associations between inflammatory biomarkers and lung function in cystic fibrosis patients. Promising candidates for anti-inflammatory clinical trials included serum hsCRP and sputum neutrophil elastase. Standard deviation within subjects was consistently lower than between subjects for all serum biomarkers. Freezing and delayed processing did not significantly affect sputum analyte measurements.

Characterization of the Human Eccrine Sweat Proteome-A Focus on the Biological Variability of Individual Sweat Protein Profiles

Bastien Burat et al.

Summary: Eccrine sweat has the potential to be used for personalized therapy, but the lack of in-depth characterization studies has hindered its evaluation. By using omics technology and accredited sweat collection methods, analysis of human sweat can now be standardized for personalized medicine. The sweat proteome, characterized in this study using shotgun proteomics, revealed diverse biological processes and molecular functions, highlighting its potential as a valuable biological matrix for further research in individualized monitoring and personalized medicine.

Prognosis-Based Early Intervention Strategies to Resolve Exacerbation and Progressive Lung Function Decline in Cystic Fibrosis

Neeraj Vij

Summary: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disease caused by mutations in the CFTR gene, leading to progressive decline in lung function as a major cause of mortality. Despite clinical management prolonging survival, controlling the progressive lung disease remains a challenge. Early therapeutic intervention based on prognosis and development of novel diagnostic technologies are crucial for optimal management of CF lung disease.
