The Role of Copy Number Variants in Gene Co-Expression Patterns for Luminal B Breast Tumors

Candelario Hernandez-Gomez et al.

Summary: Gene co-expression networks are commonly used to integrate gene expression studies in cancer cohorts. This study focused on the effect of copy number variants (CNVs) on co-expression patterns in Luminal B breast tumors. The analysis showed that CNVs in chromosome 8 did not significantly alter the co-expression patterns, indicating that CNV structure does not determine the co-expression program in this cancer phenotype. The study also identified highly dense interactions in chromosome 8 regions 8q24.3 and p21.3.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Loss of Long Distance Co-Expression in Lung Cancer

Sergio Daniel Andonegui-Elguera et al.

Summary: Using gene co-expression networks, this study investigated changes in gene expression in lung cancer. It found that distant co-expression is lost in lung cancer, while some clusters are retained and play significant roles in carcinogenesis.

Protein co-expression network-based profiles revealed from laser-microdissected cancerous cells of lung squamous-cell carcinomas

Toshihide Nishimura et al.

Summary: No therapeutic targets have been identified for lung squamous cell cancer (SqCC) due to unclear molecular profiles. This study revealed three significant protein network modules related to lung SqCC, including modules associated with keratinization and cell proliferation, translational initiation, and inhibited cell death. Key regulators identified in these modules may provide insights for developing therapeutic strategies to improve patient outcomes.

Gene Co-Expression in Breast Cancer: A Matter of Distance

Alfredo Gonzalez-Espinoza et al.

Summary: Gene regulatory and signaling play crucial roles in cellular phenotypes, with disruptions leading to the development of malignant phenotypes in cancer. Studies comparing breast cancer and normal breast tissue have found significant differences in gene co-expression patterns, shedding light on potential mechanisms that disrupt gene regulation in cancer.
