Women's Report of Health Care Provider Advice and Gestational Weight Gain: A Systematic Review

Kara M. Whitaker et al.

Summary: The study found that while a high percentage of women report receiving advice on gestational weight gain from healthcare providers, the accuracy of the advice is suboptimal, with only about half of the advice being consistent with IOM guidelines. Overweight and obesity in pregnancy: their impact on epigenetics

Christoph Reichetzeder

Summary: The prevalence of obesity has reached epidemic levels globally in the past few decades, leading to a drastic increase in obesity during pregnancy, which is associated with impaired outcomes for both mothers and children. Studies suggest that maternal obesity can have long-term consequences on offspring, increasing the risk for obesity and cardiometabolic disease later in life. In addition to genetic mechanisms, evidence shows that maternal obesity can induce epigenetic alterations, affecting offspring phenotype and influencing the risk of obesity and cardiometabolic disease later on.
