By using reusable and low toxic eucalyptol as a green solvent, and Fe(OTs)(3)center dot 6H(2)O as green catalyst for the Michael addition reaction of indoles to alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones and nitrostyrene, the methodology offers broad substrate scope and excellent yields (up to 90%) in short reaction times.
Reduction of carbon footprint generated by organic solvents via replacing them with greener solvents is of great interest in recent times. Herein, we report a Michael addition reaction of indoles to alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones, and nitrostyrene using reusable and low toxic eucalyptol as a green solvent, and Fe(OTs)(3)center dot 6H(2)O as green catalyst. This methodology offers broad substrate scope and excellent yields (up to 90%) in short reaction times.
