Spatiotemporal variation of ecological carrying capacity in Dongliao River Basin, China

Aoyang Wang et al.

Summary: This study developed an ECC evaluation index system using the DPSIRM framework and a subjective-objective combination method. Geographically weighted regression, redundancy analysis, and multiple linear regression models were used to analyze the ECC and influencing factors in the Dongliao River Basin. The results showed that ECC in the study area was spatially heterogeneous and influenced by factors such as precipitation, temperature, altitude, and slope. This study has important implications for sustainable development and ecological restoration in the DRB and similar areas.

Spatial-temporal evolution of coupling relationship between land development intensity and resources environment carrying capacity in China

Shukui Tan et al.

Summary: The study found that as land development intensity increases, the carrying capacity of resources environment shows different types of changes; the proportion of construction land, GDP per land, and population density are the main determinants of land development intensity, while water resources, energy consumption, and per capita cultivated land are the main determinants of resources environment carrying capacity; the coupling and coordination relationships have continuously strengthened over time, while the spatial evolution has shown a narrowing inter-regional gap.

Sustainable development in marine economy: Assessing carrying capacity of Shandong province in China

Jing Sun et al.

Summary: This study proposes a framework for evaluating marine ecological carrying capacity and analyses the dynamic trend in Shandong province, China using data from 2008 to 2017. The results reveal that the carrying capacity in Shandong province varied during this period, and factors such as population growth, increased number of tourists, and industrial pollution contributed to the decline in carrying capacity.

Metallic nanoparticle contamination from environmental atmospheric particulate matter in the last slab of the trophic chain: Nanocrystallography, subcellular localization and toxicity effects

Iara da C. Souza et al.

Summary: This study investigates the incorporation of metallic nanoparticles into human fibroblast cells exposed to atmospheric particulate material (PM) collected in a Brazilian region influenced by mining and steel industries. Cytotoxic and genotoxic effects were observed on lysosome and DNA structure, and various metallic contaminants, including titanium, bismuth, and cerium nanoparticles, were incorporated into lung cells. The presence of internalized nanoparticles highlights the need for regulation and understanding of their potential damage.

Exploring the temporal and spatial variability of water and land resources carrying capacity based on ecological footprint: A case study of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration, China

Fengli Zhang et al.

Summary: With the rapid development of the Jing-Jin-Ji region, the ecological and environmental problems have become increasingly prominent. This study proposes a comprehensive evaluation method based on ecological footprint theory and GIS spatial analysis to assess the carrying capacity of water and land resources. By applying the method in the Jing-Jin-Ji region, it was found that many cities in the region were facing unsustainable status regarding water and land resources. The study recommends improving the management system of water and land resources and promoting sustainable and coordinated ecological development.

Saeed Esfandi et al.

Summary: This study presents research results on the evaluation of Tehran's 22 municipal districts' carrying capacity for mega malls, using a combination of objective and subjective methods. The study developed an Urban Carrying Capacity Assessment Framework (UCCAF) to determine the final weights of various criteria and indices. The districts were classified into six clusters based on their carrying capacity rankings. The proposed framework provides urban planners with a dynamic decision support system.

Evaluation of marine ranching resources and environmental carrying capacity from the pressure-and-support perspective: A case study of Yantai

Yuan-Wei Du et al.

Summary: The pressure on marine ranching resources and environment is increasing due to large-scale construction and rapid development. An evaluation index system for marine ranching RECC was constructed and applied to analyze 11 marine ranching enterprises in Yantai, China. Results show that the overall RECC of these enterprises is in a severe state, with national marine ranching enterprises performing better than provincial ones on average. Most marine ranching enterprises in Yantai have relatively low pressure and support levels, with certain obstacle indexes limiting their RECC levels.
