Upper crustal velocity structure of the Ailaoshan-Red River shear zone and its implication for Cenozoic tectonic-magmatic activity: Evidence from ambient noise tomography using short-period dense seismic array

Mengjie Zheng et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the upper crust shear-velocity structure of the southern part of ARRSZ shows lateral variation and two high-velocity bodies, providing valuable information on Cenozoic magmatism. In addition, major regional faults are identified as important channels for magma and mineralized fluids, playing a crucial role in controlling ore deposits within the magmatic fluid ore-formation system.

Weak Crust in Southeast Tibetan Plateau Revealed by Lg-Wave Attenuation Tomography: Implications for Crustal Material Escape

Xi He et al.

Summary: The study developed a high-resolution broadband Lg attenuation model to reveal low-Q anomalies beneath the southeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau, suggesting potential high temperature and/or partial melting. A dynamic model combining shallow rigid block extrusion and deep viscous crustal flow was proposed to explain crustal material escape in this region. Additionally, the study concluded that neither shallow extrusion nor deep material flow enter the Indochina Peninsula due to the stronger crust there.

The Community Velocity Model V.1.0 of Southwest China, Constructed from Joint Body- and Surface-Wave Travel-Time Tomography

Ying Liu et al.

Summary: The study aims at building a high-resolution community velocity model (CVM) of crust and uppermost mantle in southwest China by joint inversion of body- and surface-wave travel-time data to address the issues of consistent earthquake locations and velocity models. The resulting VP and VS models show two low-velocity zones in the middle-lower crust and a prominent high-velocity region. These new models serve as the first version of the CVM in southwest China for future studies.
