Potential role of the corpus luteum in maternal cardiovascular adaptation to pregnancy and preeclampsia risk

Kirk P. Conrad et al.

Summary: Studies in the gravid rat model have shown that relaxin, a corpus luteal hormone, plays a key role in the circulatory changes of early pregnancy, including systemic vasodilation and increased arterial compliance. This study investigates whether the corpus luteum has a similar role in human pregnancy, and suggests that the absence of a corpus luteum in artificial cycles for embryo transfers is associated with impaired cardiovascular changes observed during the first trimester. It also explores the potential role of corpus luteal factors in reducing the risk of developing preeclampsia.

Should any use of artificial cycle regimen for frozen-thawed embryo transfer in women capable of ovulation be abandoned: yes, but what's next for FET cycle practice and research?

Frauke von Versen-Hoeynck et al.

Summary: The use of frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) treatment has increased significantly over the past decade. While the artificial cycle regimen provides convenience in aligning thawing and transferring embryos, recent data suggest that it may pose risks to maternal and fetal health. Therefore, the use of artificial cycle regimens in ovulatory women should be discouraged based on existing evidence.

Obstetric and perinatal outcomes following programmed compared to natural frozen-thawed embryo transfer cycles: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Andrea Busnelli et al.

Summary: Programmed FET protocols are associated with increased risks of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, pre-eclampsia, post-partum hemorrhage, and cesarean section compared with natural FET protocols. However, more well-conducted prospective studies are needed to establish a safe endometrial preparation strategy for FET cycles.

Systematic review update and meta-analysis of randomized and non-randomized controlled trials of ovarian stimulation versus artificial cycle for endometrial preparation prior to frozen embryo transfer in women with polycystic ovary syndrome

Yingying Zhang et al.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis compared the short-term reproductive and long-term obstetric outcomes between ovarian stimulation protocols and hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) undergoing frozen embryo transfer (FET). The results showed that ovarian stimulation protocols had higher live birth rates and lower miscarriage, preterm birth, and preeclampsia rates compared to HRT. However, more high-quality studies are needed to confirm these findings.
