Roles of Crustacean Female Sex Hormone 1a in a Protandric Simultaneous Hermaphrodite Shrimp

Fang Liu et al.

Summary: The crustacean female sex hormone, CFSH, plays a crucial role in the development of secondary sex characteristics in dioecious crustaceans. However, its functions in hermaphroditic species are still not fully understood. In the peppermint shrimp Lysmata vittata, CFSH was found to be essential for the development of female gonopores and influenced male sexual differentiation in short-term experiments. Additionally, silencing the CFSH gene hindered individual growth in L. vittata.

Understanding molt control switches: Transcriptomic and expression analysis of the genes involved in ecdysteroidogenesis and cholesterol uptake pathways in the Y-organ of the blue crab, Callinectes sapidus

Elena Legrand et al.

Summary: The crustacean molting process is regulated by a complex interplay of hormones produced by specific glands. This study investigated genes involved in ecdysteroidogenesis during the early premolt stage, identifying key candidates and their expression patterns. The findings support the role of specific genes in regulating ecdysteroid levels and the molt cycle in blue crabs.
