Cyp11a2 Is Essential for Oocyte Development and Spermatogonial Stem Cell Differentiation in Zebrafish

Yaqing Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the functional importance of cyp11a2 in early oogenesis and differentiation of SSCs in zebrafish. Depletion of cyp11a2 results in steroidogenic deficiencies, sex reversal, and infertility in males. The mutation leads to apoptosis of oocytes in developing ovaries and dysfunction of Sertoli cells and Leydig cells in developing testes.
