Differences in Hip Geometry Between Female Subjects With and Without Acute Hip Fracture: A Cross-Sectional Case-Control Study

Ling Wang et al.

Summary: This study found substantial differences in total and cortical volume, as well as cortical thickness, between women with and without hip fracture across the proximal femur. The ratio of Cort/TrabMass showed better performance in discriminating hip fracture risk than cortical thickness.

Aging and direct medical costs of osteoporotic fractures

Eu Gene Kim et al.

Summary: The study found that direct medical costs and hospitalization days related to osteoporotic fractures increased with age. Interventions to reduce fracture risk are effective and have the potential to yield substantial cost savings.

Vertebral fracture: epidemiology, impact and use of DXA vertebral fracture assessment in fracture liaison services

W. F. Lems et al.

Summary: Vertebral fractures are independent risk factors for future fractures, and VFA in FLS plays a crucial role in detecting vertebral fractures for secondary fracture prevention. Additional information from VFA may influence treatment initiation and type by providing baseline vertebral fracture data.
