Exceptional points enhance sum sideband generation in a mechanical PT-symmetric system

Xiao-Hu Lu et al.

Summary: This paper theoretically analyzes the generation of frequency components at the sum sideband in a non-Hermitian system by considering the nonlinear terms of the optomechanical dynamics. It demonstrates that the efficiency of sum sideband generation can be significantly enhanced in exceptional points, leading to a potential improvement in light transmission and conversion in chip-scale optical communications.

Optical bistability in aperiodic multilayer composed of graphene and Thue-Morse lattices

Hao Ni et al.

Summary: The theoretical study explores optical bistability of transmitted light in complex multilayers composed of graphene and Thue-Morse dielectric lattices. Low threshold optical bistability is achieved due to the enhancement of graphene nonlinearity with strong electric field localization. Simulations demonstrate that thresholds and intervals between them can be flexibly modulated by graphene's chemical potential, incident wavelengths, and angles, offering a candidate for all-optical switches.

Constant intensity discrete diffraction in anti-PT-symmetric electric circuits

Simeng Xiang et al.

Summary: Theoretical investigation of time-domain dynamics in a non-Hermitian electric circuit network with anti-PT symmetry shows the ability to flexibly tune effective coupling strengths and on-site potentials. The system exhibits discrete diffraction, with constant intensity diffraction at the boundary between intermediate and broken phases. These results enrich the study of discrete diffraction and contribute to further exploration of topological phenomena.

Photonic non-Bloch quadrupole topological insulators in coupled ring resonators

Zekun Lin et al.

Summary: Investigated second-order topological phases in a two-dimensional ring resonator array where the system supports topological corner modes determined by non-Bloch topological invariants. Bulk modes accumulate in opposite corners depending on clockwise or counterclockwise excitation, with the introduction of an interface with different imaginary gauge fields showing bulk modes at the interface and topological corner modes localized at physical corners. Skin effects also observed in passive ring resonators, with potential applications in lasers and broadband light trapping.

Singular PT-symmetry broken point with infinite transmittance and reflectance-a classical analytical demonstration

Yingxin Jiang

Summary: By designing a one-dimensional PT symmetric structure in optics, we discovered a singular PT-symmetry broken point where transmittance and reflectance approach infinity, known as the singular point. At this point, transmission and reflection are direction-independent, while away from it, transmittance and reflectance become finite. The infinite transmittance and reflectance are a result of resonance matching of single unit and total structure, corresponding to a single eigenvalue of the electromagnetic scattering matrix in quantum theory.
