Pressure effects on the structural, elastic, magnetic and thermodynamic properties of Mn2AlC and Mn2SiC MAX phases

Ahmed Azzouz-Rached et al.

Summary: This study conducted a detailed theoretical investigation of the effects of pressure on the structural, elastic, magnetic, and thermodynamic properties of Mn2AlC and Mn2SiC MAX phases using density functional theory. The research found that Mn2AlC is a promising thermal barrier coating material, while Mn2SiC has a lower thermal expansion coefficient. The results of this study may inspire researchers worldwide to further explore the properties of MAX phases through experiments and theories.

Insights into the physical properties of a new 211 MAX phase Nb2CuC

M. A. Hadi et al.

Summary: A systematic density functional theory study was conducted on the new 211 MAX phase Nb2CuC and its precursor Nb2AlC, revealing that Nb2CuC has improved physical properties but lower structural stability compared to Nb2AlC. The study also showed that Nb2CuC may have potential applications as a thermal barrier coating material and even as a superconductor due to its unique electronic properties.

Prediction of double transition metal (Cr1-xZrx)2AlC MAX phases as thermal barrier coatings: Insight from density functional theory

Ahmed Azzouz-Rached et al.

Summary: In this study, high purity (Cr1-xZrx)(2)AlC solid solutions were intensively investigated using first principles density functional theory calculations. The results showed that these solid solutions are mechanically and thermodynamically stable, relatively hard with brittle behavior, and exhibit metallic behavior in electronic band structures, making them promising materials for thermal barrier coatings and high temperature structural applications.
