Phase transition behavior in nanostructured VO2 with M1, M2, and R phases observed via temperature-dependent XRD measurements

Kazutaka Nishikawa et al.

Summary: This study investigates the origin and transition properties of the M2 phase in VO2 nanostructures during the metal-insulator phase transition. It is found that the nanostructured VO2 exhibits the M2 phase just before transitioning from the M1 phase to the metal state during heating, and directly transitions from the metal state to the M1 phase during cooling.

Tunable and switchable multi-functional terahertz metamaterials based on a hybrid vanadium dioxide-graphene integrated configuration

Bin Tang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an actively tunable and switchable multi-functional terahertz metamaterial device based on a hybrid vanadium dioxide (VO2)-graphene integrated configuration. The functions of the device can be reversibly switched between asymmetric transmission and two different polarization conversions by transiting the phase of VO2. The performance of the device can be actively controlled by adjusting the geometrical parameters and Fermi energy of graphene.

Thermally switching between perfect absorber and asymmetric transmission in vanadium dioxide-assisted metamaterials

Yi Ren et al.

Summary: This study proposes a switchable bi-functional metamaterial device based on a hybrid gold-vanadium dioxide (VO2) nanostructure, which can achieve perfect absorption and asymmetric transmission (AT) in the near-infrared region through thermal switching. The device behaves as a chiral-selective plasmonic perfect absorber in the metallic state and exhibits a dual-band AT effect in the insulating state.

K. Nishikawa et al.

Summary: The study investigates the surface morphology and hysteresis of VO2 nanostructures composed of nanoparticles through a sputtering deposition fabrication process. Different growth conditions were explored, leading to variations in morphology, nanoparticle sizes, and phase transition properties. The width of the hysteresis loop was found to increase with decreasing aggregation of the VO2 nanoparticles, revealing a two-step transition process during cooling.
