Progress on table-top isolated attosecond light sources

Katsumi Midorikawa

Summary: Research on isolated attosecond pulses (IAPs) based on high-order harmonic generation underwent significant changes around 2010. The use of mid-infrared optical parametric amplifier as the driving source led to improved performance of IAPs in terms of pulse width, intensity, and photon energy. However, the limited flux of IAPs still restricts their applications.

Single-shot noninvasive imaging through scattering medium under white-light illumination

Dajiang Lu et al.

Summary: In this study, we experimentally investigate image reconstruction through a scattering medium under white-light illumination. A modified iterative algorithm with a constraint on the optical transfer function (OTF) is used to solve the inverse problem of noninvasive scattering imaging. The proposed method shows a potential advantage in scattering imaging compared to the well-known speckle correlation technique (SCT).

Maximum information states for coherent scattering measurements

Dorian Bouchet et al.

Summary: The precision of measurements using coherent light can be significantly improved by tailoring the spatial profile of light fields. Optimal coherent states for estimating any given parameter are found to be eigenstates of a Hermitian operator that quantifies the Fisher information. Experimental results show that these maximum information states can probe the phase or position of an object hidden by a disordered medium with greatly improved precision.

Three-dimensional broadband light beam manipulation in forward scattering samples

Payvand Arjmand et al.

Summary: This study discusses the possibility of achieving three-dimensional ultra-short laser focusing and scanning inside forward scattering media by simultaneously utilizing angular and chromato-axial memory effects. The numerical model is validated within the current theoretical and experimental framework, and a scheme for focusing ultra-short laser pulses in depth through forward scattering media is proposed.

Scattering invariant modes of light in complex media

Pritam Pai et al.

Summary: The researchers introduced a new set of optical states called "scattering invariant modes", which have the same transmitted field pattern whether they scatter through a disordered sample or propagate ballistically through a homogeneous medium. These modes are weakly attenuated in dense scattering media and can be used to improve imaging inside scattering materials by correlating with ballistic light in simulations.
