Steel-copper functionally graded material produced by twin-wire and arc additive manufacturing (T-WAAM)

Tiago A. Rodrigues et al.

Summary: A functionally graded material (FGM) part was successfully fabricated using twin-wire and arc additive manufacturing (T-WAAM) process, with retained d-ferrite found in a Cu matrix and a smooth gradient of hardness and electric conductivity along the FGM sample height. The FGM part exhibited an ultimate tensile strength of 690 MPa and an elongation at fracture of 16.6%.

Investigating the effect of residual stress on hydrogen cracking in multi-pass robotic welding through process compatible non-destructive testing

Yashar Javadi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of welding residual stress (WRS) on hydrogen-induced cracks (HIC) and found that higher WRS resulted in larger size and number of HIC. Real-time monitoring of the negative impact of WRS on HIC was achieved using high-temperature in-process inspection for the first time.

A Phased Array Ultrasound Roller Probe for Automated in-Process/Interpass Inspection of Multipass Welds

Randika K. W. Vithanage et al.

Summary: Traditional non-destructive inspection of multi-pass welds can be complicated and costly, but a novel high-temperature ultrasound phased array roller probe allows for in-process inspection to identify defects earlier and has the potential for industrialization in the future.

A review on wire and arc additive manufacturing of titanium alloy

Zidong Lin et al.

Summary: Wire and arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) is an economic and efficient technology suitable for producing large-scale metallic components, particularly in the fabrication of near-net-shape and large-scale titanium alloys. It has been significantly noticed and adopted due to its high deposition rate, low machinery cost, and shortened lead time compared to other powder-based additive manufacturing techniques.
