Global prevalence and genotype distribution of norovirus infection in children with gastroenteritis: A meta-analysis on 6 years of research from 2015 to 2020

Mohammad Farahmand et al.

Summary: This study revealed a significant association between norovirus (NoV) infection and gastroenteritis in children, with a substantial global burden of gastroenteritis caused by NoV, predominantly by the GII.4 and GII.3 genotypes. Younger age and male sex were identified as risk factors for NoV-associated gastroenteritis among children.

Changing Predominance of Norovirus Recombinant Strains GII.2[P16] to GII.4[P16] and GII.4[P31] in Thailand, 2017 to 2018

Pattara Khamrin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the distribution of norovirus genotypes and recombinant strains in children hospitalized with diarrhea in Chiang Mai, Thailand from 2017 to 2018. The results showed a prevalence of 14.9% of norovirus infection, with the majority being of GII genogroup. Various recombinant strains were identified, with GII.2[P16] being predominant in 2017 and replaced by GII.4[P16] and GII.4[P31] in 2018.

Global prevalence of norovirus in cases of acute gastroenteritis from 1997 to 2021: An updated systematic review and meta-analysis

Yingyin Liao et al.

Summary: The global prevalence of norovirus in acute gastroenteritis cases was found to be around 16%. Children under 5 years old are at a higher risk of contracting norovirus. While South America has a higher prevalence, other continents show similar rates. The prevalence of norovirus decreases progressively from community to inpatients.
