Cerebral Microdialysis-Based Interventions Targeting Delayed Cerebral Ischemia Following Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

Jakob Winberg et al.

Summary: This study implemented structured cerebral microdialysis (CMD) monitoring in SAH patients and found that CMD monitoring can contribute to active interventions and improve the management of SAH patients. The majority of energy metabolic disturbances were actively intervened based on CMD monitoring, and a low incidence of delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) was observed.

Characterising the dynamics of cerebral metabolic dysfunction following traumatic brain injury: A microdialysis study in 619 patients

Mathew R. Guilfoyle et al.

Summary: Traumatic brain injury is a major cause of death and disability, with current intensive care management focused on maintaining normal brain physiology and preventing secondary injury. Microdialysis can provide real-time assessment of cerebral metabolism derangements and responses to treatment. Study findings suggest that interventions targeting improved cerebral metabolism, based on microdialysis parameters and relationships with other neuromonitoring modalities, may lead to better outcomes for TBI patients requiring intensive care.

Cerebral perfusion and metabolism with mean arterial pressure 90 vs. 60 mmHg in a porcine post cardiac arrest model with and without targeted temperature management

Christiane Skare et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that targeting a mean arterial pressure of 90 mmHg (MAP90) leads to improved cerebral perfusion and more intact autoregulation in a porcine post-cardiac arrest model compared to MAP 60 mmHg (MAP60), without significant differences in ischemic markers.

Summary: The study indicates that jugular bulb microdialysis (JBM) is feasible and safe, and may be used to monitor biochemical variables reflecting ongoing brain damage and mitochondrial dysfunction in comatose OHCA patients, which are associated with unfavorable outcome.
