Social support mediates the influence of cerebellum functional connectivity strength on postpartum depression and postpartum depression with anxiety

Bochao Cheng et al.

Summary: Post-Partum Depression (PPD) is a common health issue affecting women's emotional well-being and often co-occurs with anxiety (PPD-A). Adequate social support has been shown to protect against PPD and PPD-A, with specific changes in brain functional connectivity strength in different neural circuits associated with these disorders. Perceived social support mediates the relationship between brain connectivity strength in specific regions and symptoms of PPD and PPD-A, highlighting the potential role of social support as a biomarker for these conditions.

Abnormal Functional Connectivity Density in Patients with Dysthyroid Optic Neuropathy

Yunhai Tu et al.

Summary: This study used functional connectivity density (FCD) mapping to investigate abnormalities and factors related to brain functional connectivity in cortical regions of patients with dysthyroid optic neuropathy (DON), and to further analyze the pathogenesis of DON. The results showed significant abnormal connectivity in the right orbital gyri of the frontal lobe and the left precuneus in the DON group compared with the non-DON group. Furthermore, decreased FCD values were observed in the right inferior frontal gyrus/orbital part, and increased FCD values were observed in the left precuneus, suggesting a central nervous system mechanism may be related to the pathogenesis of DON.

Summary: TED severely impacts patient QOL even after becoming chronic and stable. Patients reported vision and appearance impairment as well as psychosocial impact long after acute TED had subsided. Low QOL patients more frequently reported hypothyroidism, anxiety, and a larger number of chronic TED signs/symptoms.

Increased Amygdala-Paracentral Lobule/Precuneus Functional Connectivity Associated With Patients With Mood Disorder and Suicidal Behavior

Ran Zhang et al.

Summary: This study found that in patients with mood disorders, those with suicidal behavior exhibited significantly increased functional connectivity between the right amygdala and the bilateral paracentral lobule/precuneus circuit. This dysfunction plays an important role in suicidal behavior among patients with mood disorders.

Altered Spontaneous Brain Activity Patterns and Functional Connectivity in Adults With Intermittent Exotropia: A Resting-State fMRI Study

Xueying He et al.

Summary: This study investigated brain functional changes in patients with intermittent exotropia (IXT) using rs-fMRI and found increased ALFF/fALFF values and enhanced FC in certain brain regions, which were correlated with clinical features. This contributes to a better understanding of the neuropathological mechanisms underlying visual and oculomotor impairments in IXT patients.

Altered Static and Dynamic Interhemispheric Resting-State Functional Connectivity in Patients With Thyroid-Associated Ophthalmopathy

Wen Chen et al.

Summary: This study utilized rs-fMRI to investigate interhemispheric functional connectivity alterations in TAO patients, revealing changes in static and dynamic VMHC in occipital, parietal, and orbitofrontal areas, which could serve as neuroimaging prediction markers of TAO. Connectivity differences were found to be correlated with visual acuity and emotional state in TAO patients.

Changes in Degree Centrality of Network Nodes in Different Frequency Bands in Parkinson's Disease With Depression and Without Depression

Haiyan Liao et al.

Summary: The degree centrality (DC) changes between Parkinson's disease patients with depression (PDD) and without depression (PDND) are frequency dependent and frequency specific. The medial frontal gyrus, supplementary motor area (SMA), and limbic system may be key hubs associated with depression in PD. PDD patients exhibit wider and more abnormal brain areas in the slow-4 frequency band compared to healthy controls, while PDND patients show more abnormal functions in the basal ganglia in the same frequency band.

Zhuoliang Hou et al.

Summary: The study found a potential relationship between the rs144643855 variation in the NEUROG3 gene and altered frontal brain activity in MDD patients. Specific brain regions were significantly associated with clinical manifestations, suggesting a possible role for NEUROG3 in the neuropathophysiology of MDD.

Disrupted Spontaneous Neural Activity in Patients With Thyroid-Associated Ophthalmopathy: A Resting-State fMRI Study Using Amplitude of Low-Frequency Fluctuation

Wen Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the brain functional alteration in patients with thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) and the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) method. Results showed that TAO patients had altered spontaneous brain activities in specific regions, highlighting the importance of considering the neuropsychological aspect of the disease in clinical diagnosis and treatment.

The role of the medial prefrontal cortex in cognition, ageing and dementia

Dan D. Jobson et al.

Summary: Humans rely on various cognitive skills regulated by the prefrontal cortex for executive functions. The medial prefrontal cortex plays a crucial role in regulating cognitive functions and is interconnected with subcortical regions. Dysfunction in these circuits has been implicated in neurocognitive disorders. Studies suggest that changes in medial prefrontal cortex connectivity may serve as potential biomarkers for ageing-related disorders like dementia.

Disrupted Topological Organization of the Brain Structural Network in Patients With Thyroid-Associated Ophthalmopathy

Summary: The study found that patients with TAO developed disruption of the structural brain network connectome, particularly in altered nodal properties. This disrupted topological organization of the brain structural network may be associated with the clinical-psychiatric dysfunction of patients with TAO.
