Cortical anatomy plasticity in cases of cervical spondylotic myelopathy associated with decompression surgery A strobe-compliant study of structural magnetic resonance imaging

Meng Liu et al.

Summary: This study used VBM to examine cortical gray matter volume changes in CSM patients before and after surgical decompression, revealing reductions in gray matter volume in specific brain areas preoperatively and postoperatively. Postsurgical CSM patients demonstrated decreased gray matter volume in the cerebellar posterior lobes but increased volume in the brain stem. Additionally, postsurgical CSM patients showed higher gray matter volume in certain brain regions compared to normal controls. Overall, the study suggests that myelopathy in the cervical cord can lead to chronic cerebral structural damage and potential neural plasticity changes.

Identification and Therapeutic Outcome Prediction of Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy Based on the Functional Connectivity From Resting-State Functional MRI Data: A Preliminary Machine Learning Study

Qian Su et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore preoperative brain biomarkers for diagnosing and predicting neurological recovery in cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) patients using functional connectivity analysis of resting-state functional MRI data. Results showed that CSM patients could be accurately identified from healthy controls and their neurological recovery could also be predicted using support vector machine (SVM) and support vector regression (SVR) in combination with rs-fMRI data. The findings of good reproducibility and generalization across datasets suggest the potential for developing novel strategies to predict neurological recovery in CSM patients using rs-fMRI and machine learning techniques.

Enhanced Information Flow From Cerebellum to Secondary Visual Cortices Leads to Better Surgery Outcome in Degenerative Cervical Myelopathy Patients: A Stochastic Dynamic Causal Modeling Study With Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Rui Zhao et al.

Summary: The study revealed that increased connectivity between secondary visual cortices and cerebellum in DCM patients may compensate for visual impairments. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the cerebellum's connection to secondary visual cortices is related to visual recovery post-surgery, and the EC pattern can predict pre-operative motor function.

Altered Coupling Between Resting-State Cerebral Blood Flow and Functional Connectivity Strength in Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy Patients

Wuzeng Wei et al.

Summary: The study revealed that CBF-FCS coupling was significantly lower in CSM patients, particularly in regions such as the superior frontal gyrus, thalamus, and calcarine cortex. Additionally, sensorimotor cortices and visual cortices showed distinct patterns of low CBF and high FCS in CSM patients.
