Proprotein Convertase Is the Highest-Level Activator of the Alternative Complement Pathway in the Blood

Gabor Oroszlan et al.

Summary: This study identifies the proprotein convertase PCSK6 as the activator of MASP-3 in human blood, independently of lectin pathway proteases or proteases controlled by C1-inhibitor. PCSK6 is detected in human serum and plasma, and has been shown to activate corin in circulation.
