Analysis of Conjunctival Sac Microbiome in Dry Eye Patients With and Without Sjogren's Syndrome

Hang Song et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the conjunctival sac microbial communities in patients with Sjogren's syndrome-associated dry eyes (SSDE) and non-Sjogren's syndrome-associated dry eyes (NSSDE). The results showed that the diversity of microbiome was lower in dry eye patients compared to the normal controls. The main microbiome composition at the phylum and genus levels were similar between groups, but the relative abundance varied.

Salivary dysbiosis in Sjogren's syndrome and a commensal-mediated immunomodulatory effect of salivary gland epithelial cells

Yu-chao Tseng et al.

Summary: This study suggests that changes in oral microbiota may affect the proliferation of CD4 T cells in primary Sjogren's syndrome patients, and the proteobacterium Haemophilus parainfluenzae plays an immunomodulatory role in this process.

Formation of Autoimmune Lesions Is Independent of Antibiotic Treatment in NOD Mice

Mami Sato et al.

Summary: The relationship between autoimmunity and changes in intestinal microbiota was explored by administering antibiotics to NOD mice. Results showed that antibiotic administration did not affect spleen cell populations or autoimmune lesions in the salivary glands and pancreas. These findings suggest that autoimmunity may progress independently of changes in intestinal microbiota.
