Copula based analysis of meteorological, hydrological and agricultural drought characteristics across Indian river basins

Summary: By using a bivariate copula-based approach, this study investigates the joint dependence of drought duration and severity of three different types in India. Results show that drought events in Western and Central India are longer and more severe, while those in South India are more frequent but less severe. Additionally, the study provides insights on conditional probability and return periods of drought characteristics, aiding in effective drought prevention and mitigation strategies at a national scale.
