Square Kilometre Array Science Data Challenge 1: analysis and results

A. Bonaldi et al.

Summary: As the largest radio telescope in the world, SKA will lead the next generation of radio astronomy, driving the development of efficient and accurate analysis methods. The first Science Data Challenge (SDC1) presented diverse approaches successfully used for source detection, characterization, and classification in a deep, crowded field. High-resolution observations reveal the complexity of the sky, highlighting the challenge of effectively handling highly resolved and complex sources.

SLITRONOMY: Towards a fully wavelet-based strong lensing inversion technique

A. Galan et al.

Summary: Strong gravitational lensing is a powerful tool for studying the mass distribution of galaxies and measuring the Hubble constant. Using wavelet space to represent signals allows for detailed reconstruction of lensed sources, with better control and tractable solutions compared to other methods.

Morphological classification of compact and extended radio galaxies using convolutional neural networks and data augmentation techniques

Viera Maslej-Kresnakova et al.

Summary: Machine-learning techniques have been effectively used to classify radio galaxies into different morphological classes with high accuracy. The proposed model based on Convolutional Neural Networks achieved an average precision, recall, and F1 score of 96% on an independent testing subset. Rotations, flips, and increased brightness were found to be the best augmentation techniques for improving model performance.
