Recent advances in the development of nitric oxide-releasing biomaterials and their application potentials in chronic wound healing

Summary: Nitric oxide (NO) plays a critical role in chronic wound healing, attracting intensive research focus on NO-based wound healing therapy. Various types of NO donors, biomaterial vectors, and NO delivery systems have been developed, along with NO synthetic enzyme mimics, to improve chronic wound healing. The functions of NO releasing biomaterials, such as antibacterial properties and promotion of angiogenesis, as well as the potential combination with light/thermal therapies, hold promise for advancing chronic wound healing.
