Graded thermal conductivity in 2D and 3D homogeneous hotspot systems

Chuang Zhang et al.

Summary: Hotspots in micro/nanoscale chips are a common occurrence, and it has been discovered that thermal conductivity is not constant in such homogeneous systems. Graded thermal conductivity is observed, even with a fixed system size. The mechanisms of phonon scattering are analyzed, and it is found that the graded thermal conductivity can be predicted as long as there is not enough phonon scattering, independent of material properties, dimensions, or system size.

Thermoelectric characterization of the clathrate-I solid solution Ba8-δAuxGe46-x

Michael Baitinger et al.

Summary: The study successfully upscaled the synthesis of the p-type semiconductor Ba7.8Au5.33Ge40.67 with clathrate-I structure and achieved a thermoelectric figure of merit ZT of around 0.9 at 670 K. By using a carbon layer as a diffusion barrier, sustainable electrical contacts were established at elevated application temperatures.

Enhanced thermoelectric performance in ductile Ag2S-based materials via doping iodine

Jin Liu et al.

Summary: Doping I into Ag2S-based materials successfully tunes the carrier concentration and suppresses the lattice thermal conductivity, leading to a significant increase in the thermoelectric figure of merit (zT) value. Doping I has little effect on the ductility and deformability of Ag2S-based materials.

Tunable spin electronic and thermoelectric properties in twisted triangulene π-dimer junctions

Dan Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the electronic properties and thermoelectric performance of triangulene pi-dimer junctions with varying twist angles through first-principles calculations. It is found that the relative rotation between monomers can lead to different magnetic states, with outstanding thermoelectric performance observed at specific twist angles. The high ZT value of around 6 in ferromagnetic states is mainly attributed to spin splitting, indicating potential for improving thermoelectric properties in pi-stacking molecular junctions or organic polymers.

Tunable anisotropic thermal transport in porous carbon foams: The role of phonon coupling

Xue-Kun Chen et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates thermal transport in CFs and finds that the anisotropic behavior is related to the group velocity of phonons and can be regulated by strains. The interfacial thermal conductance of CFs/silicon substrate is predicted to be about 35 MW/m(2) K-1 for thermal management applications.

Chia-Min Lin et al.

Summary: Rare-earth monopnictides like rock-salt structured lanthanum monopnictides LaX (X = P, As) have been studied using density functional theory (DFT) simulations, showing that a meta-GGA functional with scissor correction can accurately compute electronic structures and strain engineering can effectively enhance thermoelectric performance. Under optimal conditions, lanthanum monopnictides demonstrate promising high-temperature thermoelectric properties with carrier doping and strain engineering.

Improved thermoelectric properties of WS2-WSe2 phononic crystals: insights from first-principles calculations

Dan Han et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the thermoelectric properties of different WS2-WSe2 phononic crystals using first-principles calculations. It is found that the SL1 monolayer has the highest ZT value, at least twice as high as those of the WS2 and WSe2 monolayers; additionally, the PCH2 structure exhibits the best thermoelectric performance with significantly higher ZT values compared to the SL1 monolayer.
