The interacting roles and relative importance of climate, topography, soil properties and mineralogical composition on soil potassium variations at a national scale in China

Ting Li et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the complex interactions and relative contributions of environmental variables to soil potassium variations in China agricultural soil using structural equation model (SEM). The results showed that climate was the most important factor controlling soil K variations, followed by topographical conditions, clay mineralogical composition, and key soil properties.

Distribution of soil nutrients under typical artificial vegetation in the desert-loess transition zone

Xi Yang et al.

Summary: Studies on vertical soil nutrient distribution beneath different types of artificially restored vegetation in a transition zone from desert to loess revealed distinct hierarchies in soil nutrient content, with Medicago saliva vegetation being the most suitable for restoration. Soil nutrient content was positively correlated with soil water content, plant coverage, and clay, silt, and litter nutrient content, but negatively correlated with soil bulk density, sand content, and litter C/N ratio.

Combined Use of Organic and Inorganic Nutrient Sources Improved Maize Productivity and Soil Fertility in Southwestern Ethiopia

Melkamu Mamuye et al.

Summary: The study conducted a 2-year on-farm field experiment in Ethiopia to test the integration of organic and inorganic fertilizers on soil quality, nutrient balance, and maize yields. Results showed a 40% yield increase with the combined use of compost and recommended inorganic fertilizer. Soil quality improved significantly with organic inputs and showed accumulations of nitrogen and phosphorus over the study period, suggesting a sustainable method for mitigating nutrient depletion in smallholder systems.

Distribution of soil nutrients and erodibility factor under different soil types in an erosion region of Southeast China

Man Liu et al.

Summary: The study revealed that soil nutrients and soil erodibility K factor in the yellow soils were higher than those in the lateritic red soils and red soils, indicating that the distribution of soil nutrients is controlled by soil erosion and soil evolution in the erosion region of Southeast China.

GIS and AHP multi-criteria analysis method for assessing the suitability of soils adopted in agricultural activities in irrigated perimeter, Tadla plain (Morocco)

El Hassania El Hamzaoui et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the suitability of Beni-Moussa soils for agricultural production by analyzing 15 soil characteristics and using AHP and GIS techniques. The results showed that about 83% of the land is suitable for agriculture, which can be used for land management, water and nutrient management models, and other agricultural and economic assessments.
