Automated SPE-HPLC-UV methodology for the on-line determination of plasticisers in wastewater samples

Romeo Villarreal-Morales et al.

Summary: In this study, an automated methodology was proposed for the determination of plasticisers in water samples collected from wastewater treatment plants. The methodology combined solid-phase extraction with high-performance liquid chromatography and ultraviolet detection. The selected preconcentration conditions and analysis parameters were optimized. The proposed methodology was successfully applied to detect Bisphenol A and 4-tert-butylphenol in water samples from two wastewater treatment plants.

Comparative Study on UV-AOPs for Efficient Continuous Flow Removal of 4-tert-Butylphenol

Saule Mergenbayeva et al.

Summary: In this study, UV-light-driven advanced oxidation processes were used to degrade 4-tert-Butylphenol in water. The effects of varying space time and oxidant dosage were examined. The results showed that UV/Fe3+/H2O2 was the most efficient process for degradation, and the combination of UV with H2O2 significantly enhanced pollutant removal.

The interplay between acid-base properties and Fermi level pinning of a nano dispersed tungsten oxide - titania catalytic system

Sotirios Tsatsos et al.

Summary: A series of WO3/TiO2 catalysts were synthesized and characterized for the NO selective catalytic reduction (SCR) with NH3. The interfacial electron transfer between WO3 and TiO2 was studied, and its relationship with the acid-base properties of the catalytic surface and electronic structure modification was defined. The results showed that altering the dispersion and size of the WO3 nanostructures led to changes in titania's surface electron distribution, which affected the catalytic activity. It was found that higher WO3 loading on TiO2 resulted in stronger electronic interaction and higher catalytic activity due to increased surface electron density and enhanced surface basicity.

Kinetics and reaction pathways for the transformation of 4-tert-butylphenol by ferrate(VI)

Qing Zheng et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigated the transformation of 4-tert-butylphenol in ferrate (VI) oxidation process, finding that the reaction rate constant of Fe(VI) with 4-tBP decreases with solution pH and the removal efficiency was slightly affected by certain ions. Product analysis showed that 4-tBP mainly transformed into hydroxylation products, benzene-ring cleavage products, dimers, and higher polymerization products. The feasibility of this Fe(VI) oxidation method in treating phenols-contaminated waters was demonstrated by achieving nearly complete removal of 4-tBP in both ultrapure water and natural waters after 5 minutes of reaction.

Summary: The study synthesized six Mo/TiO2 samples using reverse micelle sol-gel synthesis and calcination at 500 degrees C, showing the presence of significant Mo without segregation of any MoOx phase. With increasing Mo content, the transition from anatase to rutile was favored due to the presence of brookite.

Ti2O3/TiO2-Assisted Solar Photocatalytic Degradation of 4-tert-Butylphenol in Water

Saule Mergenbayeva et al.

Summary: Colored Ti2O3 and Ti2O3/TiO2 catalysts were prepared by thermal treatment, and the effects of treatment temperature on their structure, morphology, and optical properties were studied. It was found that mTiO heated at 650°C exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity for the degradation of 4-tert-butylphenol (4-t-BP) under solar light irradiation. Different water constituents, including anions and humic acid, were found to either inhibit or enhance the photodegradation of 4-t-BP by mTiO-650, depending on their concentration.

Yerkanat N. Kanafin et al.

Summary: In this study, a persulfate-driven photo-Fenton-like process was applied to treat municipal wastewater, and the optimization of the treatment process for total organic carbon (TOC) removal was successfully achieved using response surface methodology (RSM) and artificial neural network (ANN). However, the attempts to find the optimal conditions for total carbon (TC) and total nitrogen (TN) removal using statistical, and neural network models were not successful.

Naresh Jada et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the MoO3/TiO2 composite exhibits higher photocatalytic activity for E. coli inactivation and MB degradation under UV-visible irradiation compared to unmodified TiO2 and pure MoO3. This is attributed to the increase in Brønsted acidity and OH radical concentration with MoO3 concentration on TiO2.

UV aged epoxy coatings. Ecotoxicological effects and released compounds

Anna Maria Bell et al.

Summary: Organic coatings provide long-term protection for steel structures by creating a physical barrier against water and oxygen. However, epoxy resin-based coatings, despite their mechanical properties, are shown to produce toxic transformation products under UV-A irradiation, suggesting that coatings with better UV stability should be considered.
