Isospin magnetism and spin-polarized superconductivity in Bernal bilayer graphene

Haoxin Zhou et al.

Summary: Spin-polarized superconductivity is observed in Bernal bilayer graphene under a large applied perpendicular electric field. Electrostatic gate tuning leads to transitions between electronic phases with different polarizations in the spin space. A transition to a superconducting state is observed at a finite magnetic field, and the critical temperature is consistent with a spin-triplet order parameter.

Quantitatively Deciphering Electronic Properties of Defects at Atomically Thin Transition-Metal Dichalcogenides

Si-Si Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, we used tip-enhanced photoluminescence spectroscopy to quantitatively investigate the impact of defects on electronic properties in 2D materials. By analyzing the spectral features of excitons and trions, we obtained the band gap and electron density at defect sites with nanometer spatial resolution. Furthermore, using spectral line scans, we visualized the strain distribution in defect regions and the reconstructive regions of the band gap and electron density. By comparing different doping types on the edges, we revealed the doping effect on the Fermi level and optical performance.

Sulfur-vacancy-tunable interlayer magnetic coupling in centimeter-scale MoS2 bilayer

Hengli Duan et al.

Summary: In this study, a strategy to tune the interlayer exchange interaction of a centimeter-scale MoS2 bilayer by introducing Co ion substitution and sulfur vacancy modulation is reported. The transformed magnetic interaction from antiferromagnetism to ferromagnetism is confirmed through experimental characterization and theoretical calculations, showing enhanced magnetization due to altered interlayer orbital hybridizations and intralayer ferromagnetism. This work opens up new possibilities for manipulating interlayer exchange interactions with defects in two-dimensional magnetic materials.

Controllable Doping in 2D Layered Materials

Zhen Wang et al.

Summary: The study identifies a unique self-modulated doping characteristic in 2D layered materials, allowing for controlled tuning of p-type, intrinsic, and n-type doping in the same material through thickness modulation. Lattice deformation in PtSSe transitions defects from Pt vacancies to anion vacancies, leading to different types of conductance. By modulating thickness, the WSe2 diode demonstrates high rectification ratio and open-circuit voltage, while the PtSSe detector overcomes the issue of large dark current in narrow-bandgap optoelectronic devices. These findings offer a fresh perspective for both fundamental scientific research and practical applications.

S vacancy enhanced ferromagnetism in Mn-doped monolayer MoS2: A hybrid functional study

Xiaoping Han et al.

Summary: The electronic and magnetic properties of monolayer MoS2 with Mn doping and a native S vacancy (VS) were systematically investigated to predict and interpret the influence of VS on the magnetic properties of Mn-doped monolayer MoS2. It was found that the incorporation of VS causes excess electrons to localize at the VS site and surrounding Mn and Mo atoms, leading to an additional ferromagnetic contribution. The importance of clustering of VS and Mn substitution for enhancing ferromagnetism in monolayer MoS2 was also discussed.

Coexistence of Bloch and Neel walls in a collinear antiferromagnet

Summary: Using nanoscale scanning diamond magnetometry and second-harmonic-generation microscopy, we elucidate the domain-wall structure of the model antiferromagnet Cr2O3, finding that 180 degrees domain walls are predominantly Bloch-like and can coexist with Neel walls in crystals with significant in-plane anisotropy. Furthermore, we report quantitative measurements of the domain-wall width and surface magnetization. Our results offer fundamental insights and an experimental approach for understanding domain walls in pure, intrinsic antiferromagnets, with implications for achieving electrical control of domain-wall motion in antiferromagnetic compounds.
