New La3+ doped TiO2 nanofibers for photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants: Effects of thermal treatment and doping loadings

Petronela Pascariu et al.

Summary: Pure TiO2 and La3+-doped TiO2 nanofibers were synthesized by electrospinning and calcination. The nanofibers showed crystalline structure and wide distribution of band-gaps. The optimal conditions for photocatalytic degradation of pollutants were determined to be 0.1% La3+ and 600 degrees C.

Plasmonic Ag Nanoparticle-Loaded n-p Bi2O2CO3/α-Bi2O3 Heterojunction Microtubes with Enhanced Visible-Light-Driven Photocatalytic Activity

Haibin Li et al.

Summary: In this study, n-p Bi2O2CO3/alpha-Bi2O3 heterojunction microtubes were successfully prepared via a one-step solvothermal route, and Ag nanoparticles were loaded onto the microtubes. The results showed that the carbonatization of alpha-Bi2O3microtubes on the surface led to the formation of a Bi2O2CO3/alpha-Bi2O3 heterostructure. The photocatalytic activity evaluation demonstrated that Bi2O2CO3/alpha-Bi2O3 with a Bi2O2CO3 mass fraction of 6.1% exhibited the highest activity, and loading with Ag nanoparticles significantly enhanced the photocatalytic activity of Bi2O2CO3/alpha-Bi2O3.

Optical and photocatalytic properties of S doped BiOCl nanosheets with tunable exposed {001} facets and band gap

Qian Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, S-doped BiOCl nanosheets were successfully synthesized via a facial hydrothermal reaction, leading to improved optical and photochemical properties. The S-doped BiOCl nanosheets with dominant {001} facets exhibited longer lifespans of photo-induced carriers and enhanced absorption of visible light, resulting in higher photocatalytic efficiency.

Hollow porous BiOCl microspheres assembled with single layer of nanocrystals: spray solution combustion synthesis and the enhanced photocatalytic properties

Zhongxiang Yang et al.

Summary: Hollow porous BiOCl microspheres, assembled with BiOCl nanocrystals, were successfully synthesized using a facile spray solution combustion method. The samples exhibited narrow band gaps and excellent photocatalytic properties, with a degradation rate of rhodamine B reaching 98% under visible light irradiation for 60 minutes. This superior photocatalytic performance can be attributed to the larger specific surface area and unique microstructure of the microspheres.

Photocatalytic activation of C-Br bond on facet-dependent BiOCl with oxygen vacancies

Tingting Xu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the photocatalytic removal of BDE209 using facet-dependent BiOCl with oxygen vacancies, revealing a faster reaction rate on {001} BiOCl due to abundant oxygen vacancies. The hypothesis of a position-selective multi electrons reduction mechanism was proposed, providing a new perspective on halogenated aromatics activation by inducing oxygen vacancies on specific facets.

Hydrothermal construction of flower-like MoS2 on TiO2 NTs for highly efficient environmental remediation and photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Dandan Cao et al.

Summary: A convenient and efficient anodic oxidation method was used to grow TiO2 nanotubes on Ti sheets, followed by assembling ultrathin MoS2 nanosheets to construct a composite photocatalyst. The photocatalyst exhibited improved pollutant removal efficiency and excellent hydrogen evolution performance due to the enhanced reactivity centers in the photocatalytic reaction and the superior carrier separation and migration capacity. The mechanism of pollutant removal and hydrogen generation by TiO2 NTs/MoS2 heterojunction was proposed and analyzed based on their energy band structure and free radical capture experiments.
