Unraveling the effect of H2S on the corrosion behavior of high strength sulfur-resistant steel in CO2/H2S/Cl- environments at ultra high temperature and high pressure

Yun Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of H2S on the corrosion products for high strength sulfur-resistant steel in oilfield produced water under supercritical CO2 conditions. Various analysis methods were used, including SEM-EDS, LSCM, FIB-SEM, XRD, XPS and theoretical simulation calculations. The results showed that the corrosion degree increased from mild to moderate with the increase of P-H2S in the SC-CO2 phase. Additionally, localized corrosion was more severe in the SC-CO2 phase. The structure of the corrosion product evolved from monolayer to bilayer with increasing P-H2S in the SC-CO2 phase. The results provide guidance for material selection in oil and gas fields.

The corrosion behavior of Ti-6Al-3Nb-2Zr-1Mo alloy: Effects of HCl concentration and temperature

Baoxian Su et al.

Summary: The corrosion behavior of a Ti-6Al-3Nb-2Zr-1Mo alloy in hydrochloric acid was systematically investigated, revealing that increasing HCl concentration or temperature accelerates corrosion by promoting the breakdown of the protective oxide film and facilitating active dissolution of the alloy matrix. The rate-determining step in the corrosion process of the alloy is surface-chemical reaction rather than diffusion.

Sputtered crystalline TiO2 film drives improved surface properties of titanium-based biomedical implants

Heloisa Navarro Pantaroto et al.

Summary: Different crystalline phases of sputtered TiO2 films were tailored to investigate their properties on titanium-based implant material. The combination of anatase and rutile structures proved to enhance corrosion protection, protein adsorption, bioactivity, and non-cytotoxicity effects. M-TiO2 showed the highest polarization resistance and increased albumin adsorption, while HA morphology was dependent on the crystalline phase.

Adsorption and diffusion of oxygen on metal surfaces studied by first-principle study: A review

Hairui Xing et al.

Summary: First-principle calculations, particularly using density functional theory (DFT), are employed to investigate the structure and properties of oxygen/metal interfaces, specifically focusing on the adsorption and diffusion behavior of oxygen molecules or atoms on metal surfaces. This review aims to contribute to the understanding of adsorption properties and diffusion behavior on a metal surface at an atomic-scale, particularly for those interested in catalytic oxidation and corrosion applications.

Aisha H. Al-Moubaraki et al.

Summary: Top of the line corrosion (TLC) is a significant issue in the oil and gas extraction industry, leading to accelerated corrosion rates and catastrophic failures in pipelines. The use of corrosion inhibitors is a key method for TLC mitigation, but there is limited literature available on this topic.

Microbiologically influenced corrosion of TiZrNb medium-entropy alloys by Desulfovibrio desulfuricans

Boxin Wei et al.

Summary: The study showed that Desulfovibrio desulfuricans enhances the corrosion of TiZrNb medium-entropy alloys, with the corrosion current density in the inoculated medium being approximately 12 times higher than in the abiotic medium. In the presence of biofilms, selective dissolution of Ti occurs, particularly when organic nutrients are insufficient.

Adsorption of CO molecules on anatase TiO2(001) loaded with noble metals M (M = Ir/Pd/Pt): A study from DFT calculations

Zhengguang Shi et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effect of noble metal atoms doping on the structure and electronic behavior of anatase TiO2(001) surface, as well as the adsorption behavior of CO on the surface. Results show different tendencies of different metal atoms adsorption, with Pd being the most stable. The adsorption energy of CO on the surface depends on the type and location of the metal atoms.
