Use of a hospital administrative database to identify and characterize community-acquired, hospital-acquired and drug-induced acute kidney injury

Amayelle Rey et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the proportion of HA-AKI and CA-AKI among hospitalized patients, patient characteristics, short-term outcomes, and the performance of ICD-10 codes in identifying AKI. The results showed that CA-AKI patients had better short-term outcomes and lower mortality rates, with high specificity and PPV when combining AKI codes.

Hospital databases for the identification of adverse drug reactions: A 2-year multicentre study in 9 French general hospitals

Marie-Noelle Osmont et al.

Summary: This study estimated the actual number of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) in French hospitals using the capture-recapture method with the French medical administrative database (PMSI) and the French Pharmacovigilance Database (FPVDB). Results showed that skin and renal ADRs were the most frequently reported, and anti-infective drugs and antineoplastic drugs were the most frequently suspected drugs in the two databases. The estimated number of ADRs using the capture-recapture method was 1657.

Summary: This study investigated the disease burden, related drugs, and risk factors of D-AKI in China, revealing a substantial medical burden associated with D-AKI, with a high mortality rate and low recovery rate among patients. Efforts should be made to manage nephrotoxic drugs and improve prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of D-AKI.

Drug-Induced Acute Kidney Injury: A Study from the French Medical Administrative and the French National Pharmacovigilance Databases Using Capture-Recapture Method

Anne-Lise Rolland et al.

Summary: This study provides an overview of drug-induced acute kidney injury (DIAKI) using pharmacovigilance and medical administrative databases. The results show that drugs are involved in a significant proportion of AKI cases during hospital stays, with some cases being severe and associated with high mortality.
