Identification and quantification of the bioactive components in Osmanthus fragrans roots by HPLC-MS/MS

Xiaoyan Liao et al.

Summary: The study developed an HPLC-MS/MS method to analyze the chemical constituents in Osmanthus fragrans roots, discovering new compounds and validating the simultaneous determination method. Variability was found in the content of bioactive components in different cultivars of O. fragrans roots, and the roots show potential therapeutic effects on inflammation, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Comparative transcriptome analysis of coleorhiza development in japonica and Indica rice

Tao Song et al.

Summary: This study conducted a comparative transcriptome analysis of coleorhiza hairs from japonica and indica rice, revealing key genes involved in water deprivation, abscisic acid, auxin metabolism, carbohydrate catabolism, and phosphorus metabolism. Up-regulation of ABA, auxin, dehydrin, and aquaporin genes may contribute to the development of coleorhiza hairs in both cultivars under air exposure, while DEGs related to glutathione and carbon metabolism are upregulated but those involved in amino acid and nucleotide sugar metabolism are downregulated, suggesting a shift towards stress-alleviating genes and less focus on primary metabolism.

Osteoprotective Effects of Loganic Acid on Osteoblastic and Osteoclastic Cells and Osteoporosis-Induced Mice

Eunkuk Park et al.

Summary: Loganic acid extracted from Gentiana lutea L. root extract has shown anti-osteoporotic effects by promoting osteoblastic differentiation and inhibiting osteoclast differentiation. In vivo experiments on ovariectomized mice have demonstrated that loganic acid prevents bone mineral density loss and improves bone structural properties in osteoporotic model mice. These results suggest that loganic acid may be a potential therapeutic candidate for the treatment of osteoporosis.

Antioxidant Adjustments of Olive Trees (Olea Europaea) under Field Stress Conditions

Marcia Araujo et al.

Summary: Extreme climate events in the Mediterranean region in summer 2017 led to water deficit in olive trees, affecting the antioxidant enzymatic system and metabolite profiles. Increased levels of hydrogen peroxide and superoxide radical were observed in trees from the dry area, while lipid peroxidation did not increase. The antioxidant response was mainly characterized by guaiacol peroxidase activity and flavonoids.

Global proteome response to Pb(II) toxicity in poplar using SWATH-MS-based quantitative proteomics investigation

Cong-Cong Shen et al.

Summary: The study utilized SWATH-MS technology to analyze the proteome changes in poplar seedling roots following Pb treatment. Results showed that the lignin and flavonoid biosynthesis pathways were activated upon Pb exposure, while cell wall-related proteins exhibited increased abundances. Glutathione metabolism pathway may play a protective role in mitigating Pb-induced oxidative damages.

Bioactivity-Guided Extract Optimization of Osmanthus fragrans var. aurantiacus Leaves and Anti-Inflammatory Activities of Phillyrin

Hwa-Young Song et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the optimal extraction conditions for leaves of Osmanthus fragrans var. aurantiacus and compared the inhibitory effects of various extracts on NO production. The extracts showed antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, with Phillyrin (PH) identified as a major compound. OP OFLE reduced iNOS and COX-2 protein expression and downregulated proinflammatory cytokines, suggesting biological activities of the extracts and its major components.
