Surface Electromyography Image-Driven Torque Estimation of Multi-DoF Wrist Movements

Yang Yu et al.

Summary: This article proposes an instantaneous sEMG-image-based model for continuous estimation of multiple degrees of freedom wrist torques. By employing a convolutional neural network to extract features from sEMG-images, and comparing with conventional and deep learning-based methods, the model demonstrates superior performance in estimation accuracy and smoothness. Additionally, the strong linear correlation between the extracted features and recorded wrist torques validates the effectiveness of the proposed approach. These findings provide new insights for simultaneous and proportional control and have the potential to enhance the performance of myoelectric control in practical applications.

A Real-time sEMG-based Control Strategy and System for Contralaterally Controlled Functional Electrical Stimulation

Xinyu Zhao et al.

Summary: The study proposes an sEMG-based control strategy for contralaterally controlled functional electrical stimulation (CCFES), which can be better used during grasping objects and bearing weights. The algorithm divides the function into three segments according to the sEMG under different forces, and calculates the current value of FES in proportion to the root mean square (RMS) of sEMG in each segment. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of this sEMG-based control strategy.

Smart Protocols for Physical Therapy of Foot Drop Based on Functional Electrical Stimulation: A Case Study

Jovana Malesevic et al.

Summary: Traditional rehabilitation approaches for foot drop include stretching exercises or FES delivery, but both methods lack patient engagement. Recent findings suggest that active psycho-physical engagement of the patient during physical therapy can better achieve full rehabilitation potential.
