Development and Mechanistic Studies of Ternary Nanocomposites for Hydrogen Production from Water Splitting to Yield Sustainable/Green Energy and Environmental Remediation

Asim Jilani et al.

Summary: Photocatalysts play a crucial role in water treatment and hydrogen production. This study focuses on the photocatalytic degradation of CIP and H-2 production using novel silver-nanoparticle ternary-nanocomposites. The optimized ratio of thiolated reduce-graphene oxide in the nanocomposites enhances activity by increasing charge carriers' movements and reducing charge-recombination ratios. Under optimized conditions, AgNPs-S-rGO(2%)@g-C3N4 shows a CIP degradation rate of 95.90%. The chemical and morphological analysis supports the role of thiolation in this enhancement, assisted by the surface plasmon resonance of AgNPs. The proposed mechanism involves the photo-excited electrons reacting with water moieties to generate H-2.

Enhanced visible-light properties of TiO2/diatomite composite over varied bismuth semiconductors modification for formaldehyde photodegradation: A comparative study

Fang Yuan et al.

Summary: In this study, three types of bismuth semiconductors were selected to construct heterojunctions with titania supported on diatomite for improving photocatalytic performance under visible light. The Bi2MoO6-TiO2/diatomite composite showed the highest performance, with a mineralization rate of 47.58 times that of the TiO2/diatomite composite. The performance enhancement mechanism was attributed to the relatively high quantum efficiency of the heterojunctions, resulting in a higher generation efficiency of active radicals.

A mathematical model for VOCs removal in a treatment process coupling absorption and biodegradation

Eliot Wantz et al.

Summary: This study uses biological treatments in gas treatment to enhance efficiency by maximizing mass transfer from gas to liquid. VOCs are removed through absorption in a gas-liquid contactor before entering a Two-Phase Partitioning Bioreactor (TPPB). The use of Non-Aqueous Phase Liquid (NAPL), such as silicone oil, allows for solubilizing hydrophobic VOCs without toxicity effects on microorganisms. The aim of the study is to provide a designing tool for the degradation process in the TPPB, which involves simulations considering mass transfer and biodegradation kinetics.
