Adsorption of Cr (VI) on lignocellulosic wastes adsorbents: an overview and further perspective

S. A. L. Bachmann et al.

Summary: This paper provides a systematic, updated, and critical overview of Cr (IVI) adsorption by lignocellulosic waste adsorbent. It analyzes the problems of Cr (VI) in the aquatic environment and its properties as adsorbent. The paper also investigates the adsorption phenomena through mathematical models and thermodynamics results, finding that the lignocellulosic wastes adsorption capacities range widely and have high removal rates after regeneration cycles, with the best performance at pH 1-6.

A novel nitrogen-doped porous carbon derived from black liquor for efficient removal of Cr(VI) and tetracycline: Comparison with lignin porous carbon

Yuxin Tian et al.

Summary: The direct preparation of adsorption materials from black liquor has great potential in wastewater treatment. The nitrogen-doped porous carbon synthesized showed superior adsorption performance for tetracycline compared to purified lignin-based carbon. The improved adsorption performance was attributed to pore-filling effect, electrostatic interaction, hydrogen bonding, and 7C-7C electron-donor-receptor. There was little difference in the adsorption performance of the two carbons for Cr(VI), and both exhibited excellent anti-interference property.

Facile Synthesis of Magnetic Biochar Derived from Burley Tobacco Stems towards Enhanced Cr(VI) Removal: Performance and Mechanism

Baihui Cui et al.

Summary: This study synthesized ferric-loaded magnetic burley tobacco stem biochar (MBTS) via pyrolysis to improve the removal of Cr(VI). The results showed that MBTS had a significantly higher adsorption capacity for Cr(VI) compared to raw burley tobacco stem biochar. A three-step mechanism of Cr(VI) removal by MBTS was proposed, involving exchange reactions, reduction, and chelation. Functional groups such as hydroxyl, oxygen-containing, and amino groups played important roles in the removal process. The adsorption equilibrium and kinetics of Cr(VI) on MBTS were well described by the Langmuir equation and pseudo-second-order rate equation. This study demonstrated the potential of ferric-loaded biochar derived from burley tobacco stems as a cost-effective magnetic adsorbent for efficient removal of soluble Cr(VI) from wastewater.

Dynamic evolution of humic acids during anaerobic digestion: Exploring an effective auxiliary agent for heavy metal remediation

Xiqing Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that during the anaerobic digestion process of corn stover, humic acid showed increased structural and functional groups, giving it better metal-binding abilities for Cu(II), Co(II), and Ni(II) compared to chicken manure. Humic acid extracted at different stages demonstrated varying complexation capacities for heavy metals, highlighting the potential for using HA extracted from AD process for heavy metal remediation.

Chromium contamination and effect on environmental health and its remediation: A sustainable approaches

Shiv Prasad et al.

Summary: Chromium is a critical trace element for human health, but contamination, particularly in the form of hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)], has increased in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems due to anthropogenic activities. Excessive exposure to chromium can lead to toxic health effects in humans and animals, while pollution negatively affects plant metabolic activities, reducing crop quality. Monitoring and implementing remediation technologies is essential to balance the environment and nature.

Cu/HZSM-5 Sorbent Treated by NH3 Plasma for Low-Temperature Simultaneous Adsorption-Oxidation of H2S and PH3

Jiayu Feng et al.

Summary: An NH3 plasma-treated Cu/HZSM-5 sorbent was introduced to remove H2S and PH3 in low-temperature and low-oxygen environments, with Cu/HZSM-5-[S1] showing the highest breakthrough capacities. The plasma treatment introduced amino groups onto the sorbent surface, greatly increasing the number and strength of the basic sites on the sorbent surface.
