Amazonian run-of-river dam reservoir impacts underestimated: Evidence from a before-after control-impact study of freshwater turtle nesting areas

Summary: Hydropower dams have adverse impacts on biodiversity, especially in highly biodiverse tropical waterways. This study quantified the impacts of dams on yellow-spotted river turtles by monitoring nesting areas and found that dam construction led to a rise in dry season river levels, resulting in a decline in nesting area density. This research provides solutions for mitigating the adverse impacts of hydropower dams.
