Exploring the Climate Temperature Effects on Settlement Intentions of Older Migrants: Evidence from China

Summary: Permanent migration across provinces has become an important strategy for Chinese older people to adapt to unfavorable temperature conditions in their late life. This study found that extreme cold temperature significantly affects older migrants' intentions to settle permanently, and the relative winter temperature between origin and destination places also has a significant positive effect on settlement intentions. Older migrants tend to migrate to geographically adjacent temperature zones.
