Strong Piezoelectricity in 3R-MoS2 Flakes

Hamida Hallil et al.

Summary: Distinct from conventional 2H-MoS2, the recently synthesized 3R-MoS2 exhibits remarkable piezoelectric characteristics with a noncentrosymmetric atomic structure. Experimental results demonstrate high piezoelectricity in 3R-MoS2 flakes, with a significantly higher output power density compared to monolayer MoS2 flakes. The piezoelectric coefficients are independent of flake thickness, indicating that 3R-MoS2 is an excellent material for novel piezoelectric devices.

Enhanced Piezoelectric Output Performance of the SnS2/SnS Heterostructure Thin-Film Piezoelectric Nanogenerator Realized by Atomic Layer Deposition

Viet Anh Cao et al.

Summary: This study reports the formation of SnS2/SnS heterostructure thin film using ALD to enhance the output performance of a PENG. The heterostructure significantly increased the piezoelectric response, resulting in improved output voltage and current density. Thickness-controllable large-area uniform thin-film deposition via ALD ensures reproducible output performance and adjustability of output density depending on applications.

Effective Piezo-Phototronic Enhancement of Flexible Photodetectors Based on 2D Hybrid Perovskite Ferroelectric Single-Crystalline Thin-Films

Ran Ding et al.

Summary: 2D hybrid perovskite ferroelectrics, such as EA(4)Pb(3)Br(10) SCFs, exhibit in-plane multiaxial ferroelectricity and effective piezoelectric coefficient, showing great potential for enhancing photodetector performance through the observation of the piezo-phototronic effect. Under external strains, the responsivity of flexible photodetectors based on EA(4)Pb(3)Br(10) SCFs can be remarkably enhanced by up to 284%. These findings shed light on piezo-phototronic devices and offer a promising avenue to broaden functionalities of hybrid perovskite ferroelectrics.

Widespread Negative Longitudinal Piezoelectric Responses in Ferroelectric Crystals with Layered Structures

Yubo Qi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the underlying mechanisms of the universal negative piezoelectricity in low-dimensional layered materials through first-principles calculations. It is found that the presence of a negative clamped-ion term is universal among piezoelectric materials, which is attributed to the lag of Wannier center effect. The internal-strain term in low-dimensional layered piezoelectric materials is approximately zero due to the weak van der Waals interaction in the internal structure of the molecular layers.
