Ultra-small cobalt nanoparticles embedded into N-doped hierarchical porous carbon derived from Ion-Exchange MOFs as high-efficient bifunctional catalysts for rechargeable Zn-air battery

Yisi Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel cobalt-ion-exchange and pyrolysis strategy was used to prepare a highly efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst with excellent electrocatalytic activity and stability. The bifunctional electrocatalyst, named Co@N-HPC-800, was embedded with ultra-small cobalt nanoparticles in N-doped hierarchical porous carbon. The Co@N-HPC-800 showed outstanding performance in alkaline conditions, surpassing the commercial Pt/C + RuO2 electrocatalysts. Furthermore, the Co@N-HPC-800 cathode exhibited good flexibility and stability in a flexible quasi-solid-state Zn-air battery.

Dynamically Unveiling Metal-Nitrogen Coordination during Thermal Activation to Design High-Efficient Atomically Dispersed CoN4 Active Sites

Yanghua He et al.

Summary: The structural evolution of CoN4 sites during thermal activation was studied using a ZIF-8-derived carbon host. It was found that the critical transition occurs at 700 degrees C with optimal conversion at 900 degrees C, resulting in the highest intrinsic activity and four-electron selectivity for the ORR.

Pd-Pt Tesseracts for the Oxygen Reduction Reaction

Sheng Chen et al.

Summary: This study prepared Pd-Pt hollow frame structures with high catalytic activity towards ORR by selecting Pd/Pt ratio, showing the highest mass activity among various Pd-Pt nanocrystals. The high activity of Pd-Pt tesseracts is derived from optimal oxygen adsorption energy due to facet effect and composition effect.

Twin-Directed Deposition of Pt on Pd Icosahedral Nanocrystals for Catalysts with Enhanced Activity and Durability toward Oxygen Reduction

Mingkai Liu et al.

Summary: A simple synthetic route has been developed to produce platinum nanocrystals with a multiply twinned structure and uniform sizes below 5 nm by selectively growing them from the vertices of Pd icosahedral seeds. The introduction of Br- ions in the synthesis process is crucial for slowing down the reduction kinetics of the Pt(II) precursor and limiting surface diffusion of Pt adatoms. The as-obtained Pd-Pt nanocrystals exhibit significantly enhanced activity and durability towards oxygen reduction compared to commercial Pt/C.

In-Situ Generated High-Valent Iron Single-Atom Catalyst for Efficient Oxygen Evolution

Zhirong Zhang et al.

Summary: A single-atom iron catalyst with in-situ generated Fe4+ centers has been shown to have high activity towards the Oxygen Evolution Reaction (OER), requiring a low overpotential and exhibiting comparable performance to transitional-metal based catalysts. The strong interaction between atomic Fe and carbon support via C-O-Fe bonding was found to be the key factor in lowering the energy barrier for the rate-limiting step of *OOH formation during OER.

Recent progress on the synthesis and oxygen reduction applications of Fe-based single-atom and double-atom catalysts

Yan Yan et al.

Summary: Fe-based atomic catalysts show great advantages in the ORR due to high atom-utilization efficiency and well-defined active sites. The high performance is mainly attributed to the coordination condition and electronic structures. Achieving high activity and stability with a high content of metal atoms remains a major challenge.

Recent advances in activating surface reconstruction for the high-efficiency oxygen evolution reaction

Likun Gao et al.

Summary: Recent advancements in the development of cost-effective and high-efficiency transition metal-based electrocatalysts have led to a better understanding of the dynamic reconstruction of surface structures during electrocatalytic water oxidation, especially the anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Through operando and in situ techniques, it has been found that electrocatalysts undergo surface reconstruction to form actual active species during OER in alkaline solution. By exploring issues such as initiators for surface reconstruction and establishing relationships between structure, composition, and electrocatalytic activity, progress has been made in the rational manipulation of in situ catalyst surface reconstruction for the development of high-efficiency electrocatalysts.
