Hydrogen Gas Phase and Electrochemical Hydriding of LaNi5-xMx (M = Sn, Co, Al) Alloys

Stanislava Todorova et al.

Summary: The study compared the hydriding/dehydriding properties of LaNi5 based alloys using hydrogen gas phase and electrochemical methods, showing that LaNi4.3Co0.4Al0.3 and LaNi4.8Sn0.2 have higher hydrogen absorption capacities compared to other compositions. Additionally, activated alloys exhibit significantly improved hydriding kinetics, with LaNi4.3Co0.4Al0.3 and LaNi4.8Sn0.2 demonstrating superior performance in electrochemical hydriding/dehydriding behavior.

Summary: The study found that adding a large amount of germanium to LaNi5-xGex alloys can improve the durability of the material but may decrease its hydrogen absorption capacity. The low-germanium alloy has a higher discharge capacity and lower self-discharge tendency.
