Regulated Photon Transport in Chaotic Microcavities by Tailoring Phase Space

Yan-Jun Qian et al.

Summary: A phase-space tailoring scheme is reported for deterministic and in situ regulation of photon transport in a chaotic microcavity, improving quality factors and controlling emission direction. This work opens up possibilities for studying chaotic physics in real time and enables advanced applications like arbitrary light routing and on-chip lasers.

Massively parallel ultrafast random bit generation with a chip-scale laser

Kyungduk Kim et al.

Summary: This study introduces a method for ultrafast generation of random bit streams using a single laser diode, achieving a total bit rate of 250 terabits per second with off-line postprocessing. The approach is robust, compact, energy-efficient, and has potential applications in secure communication and high-performance computation.

Comparison of single- and dual-mode lasing states of a hybrid-cavity laser under optical feedback

You-Zeng Hao et al.

Summary: In this study, we design and implement a hybrid-cavity laser with single- or dual-mode lasing states, and investigate its nonlinear states under external optical feedback (EOF). The laser with a dual-mode state easily transitions directly into chaos without periodic oscillations, and exhibits chaos over a wider range of EOF magnitude compared to the single-mode state. A flat chaotic signal is achieved in the laser with dual-mode lasing state under weak EOF, due to low-frequency energy enhancement from mode competition between the dual modes.

Direct observation of chaotic resonances in optical microcavities

Shuai Wang et al.

Summary: Optical microcavities are important in the study of chaos, but most explorations focus on their input and output properties rather than directly interrogating the internal wave dynamics. By introducing a local index perturbation to map the internal mode patterns, chaotic modes with staggered mode spacings can be distinguished. This technique has enabled the experimental verification of complete chaos assisted tunneling (CAT) in the optical domain with unprecedented certainty.
