Pregeometry and euclidean quantum gravity

Christof Wetterich

Summary: Einstein's general relativity can emerge from pregeometry, which is formulated as a SO(4) - Yang-Mills theory in euclidean pregeometry. The well-behaved propagators of all fields at short distances and absence of ghost or tachyonic poles in the graviton propagator make this pregeometry a valid candidate for euclidean quantum gravity, with no obstructions for analytic continuation to a Minkowski signature of the metric.

Fundamental scale invariance

C. Wetterich

Summary: Fundamental scale invariance is proposed as a new theoretical principle beyond renormalizability, providing highly predictive theories that are compatible with realistic particle physics and quantum gravity. Non-linear restrictions for scaling solutions can explain properties like an asymptotically vanishing cosmological constant.

Probabilistic cellular automata for interacting fermionic quantum field theories

C. Wetterich

Summary: This study constructs a classical automaton model for a specific version of the Thirring model, demonstrating properties consistent with quantum mechanics, such as unitary time evolution and interacting fermionic quantum field theory. Through probabilistic initial conditions, this classical automaton can be described in the formalism of quantum mechanics, showing interesting features like spontaneous symmetry breaking or solitons.

Dynamically emergent gravity from hidden local Lorentz symmetry

Shinya Matsuzaki et al.

Summary: Gravity can be regarded as a consequence of local Lorentz symmetry in defining a spinor field in curved spacetime. The gravitational action at a certain ultraviolet cutoff scale admits a zero-field limit, allowing for a linear realization of the Lorentz symmetry. Only three types of terms are allowed in the four-dimensional gravitational action at the cutoff scale: a cosmological constant, a linear term of the Lorentz field strength, and spinor kinetic terms.
