Prediction of Outcome After Endovascular Embolectomy in Anterior Circulation Stroke Using Biomarkers

Fani Pujol-Calderon et al.

Summary: Stroke is a serious public health problem that can lead to long-term disability or death. Endovascular embolectomy is a treatment option for severe strokes caused by large vessel occlusion. Studying biomarkers like tau, NFL, GFAp, and S100B post endovascular treatment can help predict neurological outcomes, infarct volume, and prognosis in stroke patients.

Biomarkers associated with rhythm status after cardioversion in patients with atrial fibrillation

Pascal B. Meyre et al.

Summary: This study investigated the changes in biomarkers and clinical measures in patients with and without atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence after electrical cardioversion. The results showed significant differences in bone morphogenetic protein 10 (BMP10), N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), and total bilirubin levels between patients with and without AF recurrence. The reductions in BMP10 and NT-proBNP levels were independently associated with the follow-up rhythm status.

Plasma proteins associated with cardiovascular death in patients with chronic coronary heart disease: A retrospective study

Lars Wallentin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the associations between 157 cardiovascular and inflammatory biomarkers with CV death in patients with chronic CHD. 18 biomarkers were identified with confirmed independent association with CV death, with NTproBNP and cTnT-hs providing the most prognostic information. Measurements of plasma protein profiles could help identify pathophysiological pathways associated with an increased risk of CV death in patients with chronic CHD.

Axonal marker neurofilament light predicts long-term outcomes and progressive neurodegeneration after traumatic brain injury

Neil S. N. Graham et al.

Summary: Plasma NfL serves as a sensitive and clinically meaningful measure of axonal injury resulting from TBI, validated through advanced MRI, cerebral microdialysis, and experimental models. The results support the incorporation of NfL sampling into clinical practice to aid in diagnosis and improve prognosis.

The potential of serum neurofilament as biomarker for multiple sclerosis

Stefan Bittner et al.

Summary: Blood-based serum neurofilament light chain (sNfL) is being investigated as a biomarker for prognosis and treatment response in multiple sclerosis patients. It reflects ongoing inflammatory-driven neuroaxonal damage and has the potential to guide individualized clinical decision-making.
