Experimental investigation of eco-friendly high strength fiber-reinforced concrete developed with combined incorporation of tyre-steel fiber and fly ash

Tauqeer Akhtar et al.

Summary: Simultaneous addition of 10-15% low-calcium fly ash and 0.25%-0.5% recycled-tyre steel fiber can enhance the ductility and imperviousness of concrete. The high strength concrete mix containing 10% fly ash and 0.5% recycled-tyre steel fiber showed significant improvements in modulus of rupture, splitting tensile strength, and compressive strength.

Assessment of fiber factor for the fracture toughness of polyethylene fiber reinforced geopolymer

Ning Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of polyethylene fiber and water-binder ratio on the fracture properties of high toughness geopolymer, revealing that the fracture toughness of PFRG increased first and then decreased with the increase of fiber factor. The optimal fiber factor was determined to be 580.65. Additionally, it was found that the fracture toughness of PFRG with a water-binder ratio of 0.35 was generally greater than that of 0.38, and the gain ratio of unstable fracture toughness was higher than that of initial cracking toughness.

Development of environment-friendly and ductile recycled aggregate concrete through synergetic use of hybrid fibers

Babar Ali

Summary: The substitution of natural aggregates with recycled ones can mitigate the negative impact of concrete industry on the environment. This study aimed to enhance the ductility of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) by introducing hybrid fibers. The results showed that RAC with hooked steel fibers (HSF) and hybrid HSF-polypropylene fibers (PPF) exhibited superior flexural behavior, tensile strength, and compressive strength compared to plain natural aggregate concrete (NAC). Hybrid fibers were found to be more efficient than singular HSF in improving the mechanical properties of both RAC and NAC. The addition of 0.85% HSF + 0.15% PPF improved the water impermeability of concrete and reduced the water absorption capacity of RAC by 6.4%.

Experimental and analytical study of hybrid fiber reinforced concrete prepared with basalt fiber under high temperature

Mehran Khan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the application of mineral basalt fibers of different lengths and contents in hybrid fiber concrete, develops a new analytical model for stress-strain curve, and explores their performance at room temperature and high temperatures. The addition of basalt fibers substantially improves the compressive properties of hybrid fiber concrete, demonstrating overall good suitability. The proposed analytical model shows potential for predicting behavior under high temperatures for research and design purposes.
